Vision Contracting continues support for the Annual Cork Simon Golf Classic
May 20, 2023
Vision Contracting was once again delighted to support this year’s Cork Simon Community Golf Classic at Monkstown Golf Club, which took place on Thursday 18th May. This is Vision Contracting’s third consecutive year as the main sponsor of the annual event.
According to the most recent figures published by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, the number of men and women in emergency accommodation in #Cork increased by 9% to 517 people in the 12 months to March 2023. Their number has more than doubled since March 2016.
Cork Simon Golf Classic committee member and Vision Contracting director Mick Allen says, “It’s clear for all to see that the people in need are often the most overlooked. We in Vision Contracting see Cork Simon as a major force in picking up the pieces and helping to alleviate imbalance.”
€400,000 raised over the years for local homeless services
Now in its 17th year, the Annual Cork Simon Golf Classic has raised almost €400,000 in support of Cork Simon’s services for men and women experiencing homelessness.
Mick Allen added, “We know that our sponsorship of the Golf Classic makes a difference to men and women who are homeless. It’s another way to help alleviate the problem of homelessness in Cork. It’s a great fundraiser and a great opportunity to do something constructive and proactive to contribute to the work of Cork Simon.”
Commenting on this increasing number of people being pushed into homelessness, Mick Allen added, “It’s disheartening listening to the media coverage around homelessness; there seem to be many challenges and barriers to solving homelessness. We have been proud to sponsor the Golf Classic for the last three years and to be associated with the work of Cork Simon.”
Cork Simon Golf Classic Volunteer Committee
The organising committee for this year’s Annual Cork Simon Golf Classic included chairperson Finbarr Gannon, Mick Allen, @Rob Andrews, Denis Crowley, Jennifer Igoe, Helena Jackson, Fiona McKiernan, Clare O’Loughlin and Gerry Wycherley.
Speaking on behalf of his fellow volunteers, Finbarr Gannon said, “We are grateful to the companies and individuals who use this golf day to help in raising much-needed funds and can assure them that the monies raised are important to Cork Simon in looking after the homeless of Cork. We always have great support with many of the same individuals and companies taking teams year after year.”
